The 1980s in Poland – the very middle of the bleak landscape between martial law and the Round Table. In a small, forgotten town somewhere in the south-west of Poland, a brutal double murder occurs: of a young prostitute and a local communist activist. At the same time, teenagers commit suicide. Wanycz, an experienced, somewhat bitter journalist, is assigned to write about the murder in the local newspaper. At the same time, a young editor, Zarzycki, son of a high-ranking party activist, is hired in the same editorial office. He begins his own journalistic investigation.
